Six lies about the 'Fake News Bill' published on Telegram

The debate on Bill nº 2.630/2020 (PL 2.630) in the Lower House, which became known as the "Fake News Bill", has generated clashes on social networks. An analysis of 576 Telegram groups and channels identified the main misinformation narratives circulating on the app. Lupa checked six of these contents and concluded that they are false. The survey was carried out by FGV School of Communication, Media, and Information between 4 pm on April 30 and 4 pm on May 2.
Whereas the opposition is against the proposal and links it to censorship, government supporters defend the approval of the text, which had the vote removed from the agenda on Tuesday (2). Bill 2630 creates the Brazilian Law of Freedom, Responsibility and Transparency. The project proposes a way to regulate digital platforms, but it brings controversial points, which have been used to spread false information about the text. Read more on Lupa’s website.
