Disinformation and hate speech dominate debate about transsexual people in Facebook groups

Transphobic posts and false narratives have dominated the debate about transsexual people in public Facebook groups for the past four years. Those are the findings of an exclusive survey carried out by the Diversity and Inclusion Program at FGV Direito Rio and Democracy Reporting International within the project Media and Democracy. The initiative is also supported by Lupa. 

The survey analyzed 4.1 thousand publications made between January 1, 2019 and April 30, 2023. Most of the messages were shared in groups aligned with the far right, especially with former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Of the 10 groups with the highest number of publications about the topic, 9 had this ideological profile. Read the article by Lupa.
